Umbwe route

Umbwe route deserves to be considered the most difficult route, and it should only be attempted by a strong and genuine adventurer team. Because of the low traffic, the trail is not well opened. Because of the rapid ascent to high altitude, the route does not provide adequate time for acclimatization, which may result in altitude sickness.

This route has an 85% success rate. The Umbwe route begins with a short drive from Moshi town to Umbwe gate, where the hikes begin. The Umbwe route then connects with the Machame route on Kilimanjaro, Lemosho, and Shira routes at Baranco and heads east south to Barafu camp before summiting. The first day is filled with real adventure on a thick, healthy forest and wet trail.
